Well.....It's the first New Comic Book Day after Free Comic Book Day and whoooooo
doooooogie are there way too many good books coming out this week. Between DC and
Marvel we have a gad-zillion-deca-million titles to choose from (Sorry, been reading
Ducktales, The Marv Wolfman stuff. Waaay Good).
To start the whole hoopla have a GIANT Wednesday we'll talk about the book everyone is
wanting to read, The War That Time Forgot written by Bruce Jones. Nah....I'm kidding. I
ordered it, I don't expect you guys to buy it.
The book that I'm sure most of you comic reading
fiends out there were looking forward to reading has
got to be Secret Invasion #2 from Marvel Comics. This
second installment of Marvel's epic event continues
as the "Non Skrull" Super Heroes are confronted by
the "Alleged Skrull" super heroes from the 70's.
The super heroes fight over beautifully drawn splash
pages, insisting that each other are the real deal. Well,
I'm not going to tell ya what happens, but a few well
placed surprises ensue and fun is had by the reader.
Wait??? But wasn't something happening in New York
at The Baxter Building. That's right! The top of the
towering sky scraper was slowly being ingested by
another dimension or is someone trying to get in? Ya
gotta read it to find out.

Though there is.....a possibility a
majority of you were looking forward to the
next chapter of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Season 8. Drew Goddard (writer of
Cloverfield and of various BTVS Season 7
Episodes) has captured BTVS fans hearts
yet again. He's taken us on the other side of
the fence with Buffy as she faces new
villains, teams up with old foes and
unleashes a new monster on Tokyo.

NEXT we're going to talk about two 1-shots Marvel
brought to us today. One brilliant, well written and just
playing disturbing at the end and the other is X-Factor:
The Quick and the Dead.
It's not that I didn't enjoy X-factor, in fact I thought it
was quite fun and David was right on with his story
telling as always, but when you compare it to Christos
Gage's Thunderbolts: Reason in Madness it just
doesn't compare.
Gage has got me glued to thunderbolts. I'm reading
Ellis' main book, but truthfully I find myself waiting for
these 1-shots to come out. Each 1-shot that Gage has
written delves deeper into what each member of the
Thunderbolts are actually after. This issue shows us
that Venom does know the meaning of comprimise as
he finds himself in a sticky situation with Osburn.
On the other hand we have X-Factor: The Quick and
the Dead. If you've been wondering what's happened
to Quicksilver lately then you'll love this issue.
Unfortunately it really hasn't crossed my mind, so
while it was a "cute" issue to me in the end my heart
just wasn't into it.

I Know, I Know....I've been rattling on for paragraphs. it's bad enough that you
have to read my newsletter and now I've taken over the front page, but dammit, i'm not
done yet so you're gonna have to read just a bit longer.
Just one more thing from DC Comics
and I saved the best for last, Action Comics, Last
Son Story line finally ends. This great story from
Geoff Johns and Richard Donner has had it's
ending delayed for what seems like years and
finally has come to us in the form of an OVER-SIZED
annual. That means we don't only get the end of the
story, we're gonna get a lot of it.
And we do.....I gotta say that the end of Last Son
was probably worth the wait. Like all things that
Johns touches I was instantly drawn back into the
story though for the life of me I couldn't remember
how it the last chapter ended, but truthfully I didn't
care. I had Adam Kuberts awesome art in front of
me and such a captivating story that I whisked right
back into it.
Just an observation to those of you that have
already read it, didn't it have a Buffy ending? I don't
wanna give the ending away, but it so reminded me
of the ending of my favorite BTVS season. Just
saying.
